Michael Mitchell (MA 00019465) graduated from the Massage Institute of New England in 2000. He has training in Swedish massage, Deep Tissue and Sports Orthopedic Rehabilitation. This in-depth training has allowed Michael to excel at advanced techniques centered around the unwinding of soft tissue. He adapts the work for each client’s body type, ability, and pressure tolerance. His goal for each session is to help you recover from injury and chronic pain, regain mobility, and improve your quality of life. He also has experience with lighter, more relaxing massage, having worked in both clinical and spa environments. Michael’s decades of experience and empathetic personality allow him to patiently meet people within their physical needs, and guide them through each session with care and communication. After a thorough consultation discussing your history, current concerns, and goals, Michael will tailor your massage to meet your specific needs.

A list of modalities that Michael has curated and focused on in his practice includes but is not limited to: Swedish, Deep Tissue, injury rehab, sports performance enhancement, Myofascial release, therapeutic stretching, and several modalities for correcting structure. Often sessions are a combination of many techniques acquired over his career that have proven most effective.

Michael is a true giver and sees his role as a bodyworker to be an honor and a privilege. He believes everyone can benefit from massage and creates an atmosphere in his studio where the client feels empowered to give feedback, ask questions, and take ownership of the bodywork session. He believes clients should always feel in charge of the work they receive.

A full-time resident of Orcas Island since 1995, Michael embodies the rhythms of island life. He carries this relaxed and calm constitution into his treatment space and with each of his clients.  He is proud to have raised two kids on the island, and currently enjoys life at home with his partner Jolene, two cats, and seven chickens.

Michael is a proud member of his community and has worked at the  Healing Arts Center since 2008.
